Arab Board of Health Specializations and International Council of Ophthalmology Shape a New Future for Medical Professionals

In a strategic step that places Arab medical professionals on the path toward global excellence, the Arab Board of Health Specializations has signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding with the International Council of Ophthalmology during an official signing ceremony held at the Board’s headquarters in Cairo.

The agreement marks the launch of a new phase of international cooperation aimed at advancing medical education and training in the field of ophthalmology and eye surgery, in line with the highest accredited international standards.

This partnership reflects the Arab Board’s vision to build cross-continental bridges of cooperation with leading scientific institutions. It aims directly to develop educational curricula in a way that keeps pace with the rapid technological advances in ophthalmology, while also modernizing training and examination methods to ensure the graduation of physicians whose professional competence matches that of their peers in the world’s leading medical centers.

The partnership also seeks to promote continuing professional development through advanced training programs that contribute to raising the quality of healthcare services provided across the Arab world.

The signing ceremony was attended by a distinguished group of medical and academic leaders, headed by Dr. Adel El-Adawy, President of the Executive Office of the Arab Board of Health Specializations and former Egyptian Minister of Health, and David Pyott, President of the International Council of Ophthalmology.

Representing the Arab Board, the ceremony was also attended by Dr. Essam El-Toukhy, Director of the Training Department; Dr. Ahmed El-Taoudi, Director of the Cairo Office; and Dr. Ahmed Osman, Chairman of the Continuing Professional Development Committee.

Also taking part in this important event via Zoom were Dr. Omar Al-Rawas, Secretary-General of the Arab Board of Health Specializations, and Dr. Yosra Hedda, Chair of the Scientific Council for Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery, underscoring the great importance the Board attaches to this partnership.

This new cooperation represents an international vote of confidence in the role played by the Arab Board as a leading regional reference. By combining the global expertise of the International Council of Ophthalmology with the Board’s well-established academic infrastructure, both parties seek to achieve a qualitative leap in the quality of medical training, ensuring that Arab ophthalmology specialists reach the highest levels of academic and professional excellence.

The partnership further affirms that the Arab Board of Health Specializations remains committed to its mission as a driving force in enhancing the efficiency of Arab health systems, while placing the interests of both Arab physicians and patients at the heart of its priorities.
